About DragonSpeed
DragonSpeed is a racing team with a history that spans both prototype (LMP2) and GT competition — including appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 prototype class, one of motorsport's most demanding categories. This background gives the team a broader perspective on endurance racing strategy and preparation than purely GT-focused operations.
Having competed in LMP2 — the open-cockpit, purpose-built prototype class that sits above GT3 in the IMSA hierarchy — DragonSpeed's engineers and strategists understand what it takes to run a car for 12 or 24 hours at maximum effort. That prototype racing mentality, applied to GT3 competition, creates a team with unusual strategic depth.
For 2026, DragonSpeed campaigns the Corvette Z06 GT3.R in the GTD class, bringing the American GT3 platform's mid-engine muscle car character to a team with international endurance racing credentials.
The Car: Corvette Z06 GT3.R
The Corvette Z06 GT3.R is built on the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Z06, using the car's flat-plane crankshaft V8 engine. The flat-plane design produces a distinctive, high-revving sound — unlike a traditional American muscle car V8 — and enables the Corvette to compete technically with European GT3 machines.
In the GTD class, the Corvette represents American engineering in a field dominated by European manufacturers. The Balance of Performance (BoP) system equalizes performance across different cars, so the Corvette Z06 GT3.R competes on equal footing with Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes.
From Le Mans to Sebring
Competing at Le Mans in LMP2 — a 24-hour race on public roads through the French countryside — is among motorsport's most demanding challenges. Teams that have done it develop enormous respect for the preparation, reliability management, and strategic thinking required to survive and succeed in ultra-long-distance racing. DragonSpeed brings this institutional knowledge to Sebring's 12-hour format.
Henrik Hedman (Sweden) is a Swedish gentleman driver who has competed in international motorsport for many years. His long career as an amateur racer reflects the commitment and dedication required to compete seriously in professional endurance events. Swedish drivers have a strong tradition in international motorsport, from rally driving to Le Mans, and Hedman continues that tradition in the IMSA GTD class.
Alessio Altoè (Italy) is an Italian professional GT driver with extensive experience across European and American GT championships. Italian drivers bring a cultural heritage of passion for motorsport — Italy produced Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, and many of history's greatest racing drivers — and Altoè carries that tradition as the professional anchor of the #81 lineup.
James Stevenson (USA) is an American sportscar driver who completes the trio. His domestic racing experience and familiarity with IMSA circuits, including Sebring, contribute local track knowledge to the team's race preparation.
